Desktop Cloud Solution

Background and Customer Requirements
Nowadays, enterprises rely a lot on IT resources. Along with the development of technologies, resources are becoming more and more complicated and the desktop systems are becoming scattered. It is very urgent for enterprises to find a fast, economic, and effective IT resource distribution method. That is why desktop cloud comes into being.
The desktop cloud means users can visit trans-platform applications by thin clients or any other devices that are connected to Internet.
Desktop cloud changes the old scattered and separated desktop systems and after centralized deployment, IT staff can manage all data in the data center. By using the desktop cloud technology, all user desktops are managed in the data center. The personal terminals only serve as monitors. Meanwhile, all data is also stored in the data center. If any disasters occur, users can recovery their desktops quickly by using data in the data center to recovery service processing capacities.
If desktop cloud is deployed, the following requirements can be met:
Access to the personal desktop at anytime in anywhere
Centralized management
High security
High reliability
Low total cost

Customer Benefits and Solution Values
ZTE, one of the earliest companies that entered the desktop cloud area, is always devoted to R&D of desktop cloud technologies (with over 7000 researchers). ZTE shoulders key works in the ITU-T cloud focus team and is the only one in China that takes vice chairman position. Besides, ZTE has abundant technological accumulations and rich desktop project experiences. ZTE desktop cloud solution can bring the following benefits:
Separation of terminals and data to ensure information security
Terminals are separated from enterprise data and desktop data is stored and processed in background. Only images are transmitted to terminals. Thus there is no risk of data leakage. Remote access can be granted according to actual needs. Server background authenticates user identification through USB Key, user fingerprint, and user password.
Low power consumption to lower customer TCO
Low power-consumption and low-noise thin clients are used as terminals to solve the problems of temperature and noises and to cut power expenditure. Thin clients and desktop operating systems do not need to be maintained. The foreground and traditional IT infrastructure are separated to simplify IT management and to lower operation costs.
Flexible terminal access to provide mobile office applications
Data and desktop systems are stored and processed in the data center. Users can use multiple terminals to access the desktops at anytime in the office, on the way, or even at home to achieve mobile office.
Unified cost management to achieve resource sharing
The unified management platform can manage thousands of thin clients, thus simplifying IT management, maintenance, and technical support. The background data center uses the virtualization technology to integrate computing/storage/network resources into the shared resource pool to achieve unified management, to simplify IT maintenance and technical support, and to lower total management fees, purchase cost, power consumption cost, and air-conditioner cost.

Advantages of the Solution and Cooperation
Overall structure of ZTE desktop cloud solution

Solution Advantages
Firstly proposed the green energy idea: Based on the dynamic resource load balance solution and energy-saving solution, virtual machines are deployed reasonably on physical machines. During off-peak hours, most virtual machines can be turned off to reduce power consumption and to achieve green data centers.
Firstly achieved online upgrade function: Users can upgrade the software version manually or automatically through the cloud platform software version center.
Only company which provides self-adaptive software deployment: The desktop cloud system can monitor the status of each node, add or delete nodes according to predefined strategies, and automatically install, start, and close service software. Only a few configuration steps are needed to assign resources to new services, thus facilitating the new service launch.
Flat and unified O&M management: A unified cloud management platform is established based on rights and areas to help O&M workers to manage services and devices.
Special routing DR method: When a physical machine is faulty, the virtual machine management center automatically migrates involved virtual machines to other physical machines. When a virtual machine is faulty, the application deployment subsystem releases resources on the faulty virtual machine immediately and applies for a new virtual machine.
Pluggable components achieving many applications: The cloud computing platform supports many applications such as resource pools, IDC, value-added services, and EDC by pluggable components.

Cooperation Advantages
ZTE, as one of the earliest companies that started the R&D of the desktop cloud technology, has abundant technological accumulations and rich desktop cloud project implementation experiences.
ZTE take an active part in the formulation of national & international desktop cloud standards. In 2005, ZTE started the development of servers, disk arrays, and blade servers to provide hardware support for cloud hardware resource pools. In 2007, ZTE started to research the file system (ZXFS), which was used in the IPTV system at the same year. In 2008, self-developed ATCA blade servers were used in the international value-added service products. The virtualization and distribution technology was also started at the same year. In 2009, ZTE firstly proposed the “implementable” service cloud solution and put it into use in the construction of operator cloud storage, multi-service cloud dispatching, and internal resource pools. In 2010, ZTE registered the brand “CoCloud” for its desktop cloud products.
ZTE constructed China Mobile MM WAP cloud storage pilot project, Chongqing Mobile call center project, and Jilin Mobile SM cloud center project. Its desktop products were used in the French SFR, internal IT system, Unicom WoStore, Telecom PaaS cloud, and Telecom IPTV projects. ZTE has rich technological accumulations and project implementation experiences. Its desktop cloud products serve the global customers.

Success Stories
ZTE provides various desktop cloud solutions, such as virtual desktop cloud solution, resource pool solution, cloud IDC solution, comprehensive cloud storage solution, call center cloud solution, SDPaSS solution, and multi-service cloud solution. There are over 50 application cases of ZTE desktop cloud solutions all over world.
